What
is a sparkleball?
According
to Wikipedia, it's an ornament handmade out of Christmas lights
and plastic cups, using soldering, staples or cable ties to join
the cups. It is a modern American folkcraft whose origins are unknown.

I
built this solar sparkleball using a string of 25 solar icicle lights
(online at Sam's Club.) Best part is no elecrical cord. Just a little
solar panel that rests on top or hangs from the sparkleball.

Every
year the neighbors on North Yale Avenue turn their block into a sparkle
wonderful. It takes 2 days and four commercial boom lifts to hang the
450 sparkleballs. The action starts the day after Thanksgiving, so stop
by!
